Our first run of this instant classic KICSK/HI Orange Label backpack turned more heads than Murray State in this year’s brackets. We have been getting so many inquiries about this backpack, since we sold out the first time in a matter of days-that it was time to produce another run…so voila! A high performance cordura fabric body with a durable, premium leather bottom. One spacious main compartmant with: zippered pouch inside, zippered side access, and laptop sleeve. This group of Dunks is to commemorate the World Cup: orange for the Netherlands, red for France and Black for Brazil. That’s not the real selling point here, though. I’m going to speak on aesthetics, and aesthetically, these canvas upper and VULCANIZED outsole dunk highs are so real. Hello, brand new skate shoe. The homie Young Bryant aka “BryFry” is already claiming these as his next “not-made-for-skate-but-gonna-skate-in-em-because-they-probably-skate-really-good” shoe. He has made this claim before and actually pulled off some bangers in non-skate specific shoes. Skate in ‘em or not-they still are great shoes. My only complaint are the corny tongue tags. I could have really done without the feeble use of fonts, but other than that minor setback, the vulcanized outsole on a dunk high is a revelation. It was bound to happen-as Nike has gone vulcan(ized) crazy, but in this case, the hybrid works. Well. NIKE AINA CHUKKA:
Sometimes a silhouette comes around that makes you do a double take. Well, I triple took on this Aina Chukka. And its even doper in person than in the picture. Trust me. Grey suede upper with woven side panels. Leather laces. Vulcanized outsole. Padded tongue. Heel pull. It has the DNA of a Nike Woven Boot upper with that vulcanized outsole. Pretty much the best Pump from Reebok: the Court Victory Pump aka the Michael Chang’s are in the building! And even better, Reebok did these up with nostalgic ’50s style Hawaii surf graphic fabric hits on the heel upper and inner lining. Its like a cool, vintage aloha shirt…pon your feet. We are EXTREMELY PRIVILEGED to carry this highly anticipated collaboration between Converse First String and Takahiro Miyashita’s Number (N)ine label: “Converse worked closely with Takahiro to create his interpretations of the Chuck Taylor All Star and One Star shoes, which Takahiro considers ‘authentic and permanent’. Taking a hybrid approach, Takahiro chose to incorporate the asymmetrical lacing of the 1970 and ‘80s era Converse Odessa shoe into his design. The Odessa shoe, which was originally designed for running, was super innovative for its time and a shoe from the Converse archives that Takahiro has long admired. The collection includes an oxford version of the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe with premium deer skin, yellow shag suede uppers, asymmetrical lacing and a metallic gold star on the shoe’s heel. “The palm tree at the foot of the 2nd step of the big 4 (4 stair set) at Raoul Wallenberg Alternative High School in SF has played a supporting role in skateboarding since 1990. My Nike SB Dunk Low colorway is inspired by this little tree’s ‘twenty year anniversary’ in 2010/2011. The colorway draws a palette from the palm tree itself while utilizing hemp for the Swoosh. The white midsole represents the step and has a visible “waxed ledge” around the top of it, just like that step at Wallenberg. Lastly, the insoles each contain a pixelated image of the palm tree itself, giving a nod to all of the times it has appeared in skate videos over the years.” -Bob Kronbauer (designer of the “Palm Tree” Dunk Low SB). Sometimes there’s never any story with some of the colorways that come out and sometimes there’s stories that don’t necessarily need to be told. This story is like a funny ancedote to me because its on some skate nerd status, which is something I definitely do when I watch skate videos. I used to try and find all the music from all the videos I really liked: i.e. “Questionable”, “Da Deal is Dead”, “Useless Wooden Toys”, “Mouse”, etc. That’s a good way to get your music horizons broadened.
