If that happened to me, dunk or not, I would have straight up taken myself out of the game, called over Craig Seger and his amazing, technicolor suit and promptly announced my retirement from the game of professional basketball. Its that real, ladies and germs. Hand in the rim (giggles), fingers touching rim (giggles more), or not having your hand above and guiding the ball into the basket…whatever, we can belittle this detail for eternity, but fact of the matter is: it was sensational. Tell me you did not lose your biscuits when you first saw the replay. And can someone please give CP3, aka Carlton Banks, his just due on that pass, though? He had like 15 dimes that game. Again, I’m sorry Lakers fans, these types of highlights would be no doubt involving the Kobe system if the commish hadn’t put the ixnay on the initial deal. Nike hit a homerun with these Huarache Frees. If shoe was a song, I would’ve already e-mailed it to all my friends & listen to it all day on repeat for easily about a month straight.
The only AM90s we like to bring in are the mesh toe jumpoffs like this – as close to the OG creation as possible. This particular colorway is as poppin’ with almost any denim wash as it is with any color chino you could imagine. AF1 back. That YOTD AF1 Supreme almost single handedly brought people’s focus back to the Air Force 1. Who would have thought: a limited edition project that was actually produced in low quantities and hard to get everywhere that sold out everywhere that was fortunate to get the shoe and left people wanting more? I’ve always loved the AF1 Mid, and with the current all slim-fit everything pants movement, the AF1 Mid can pop extra hard. The mid was getting lost in all those straight/boot fit type cuts. Check the nice pebbled leather here too. Butters (no South Park).
The Flight ’89 has been one of my all-time favorite shoes. I’ve mentioned this almost every time we get a new colorway in, and this one is definitely a flat out winner! AMERICA! One of the best/most tech backpacks that has come through our doors in years. Taped zippers, taped seams, ripstop tarpaulin lining, mad pockets/compartments, laptop space, ergonomic padded shoulder straps…it didn’t come with a manual with a breakdown of all the features so I am sure there is more, but from what I could see, this has all the bells and whistles of a well designed AND sick looking backpack. HUF x HAROSHI x DLX COLLECTION – SATURDAY (1/28) RELEASE:
HUF teamed up with DLX distribution (spitfire wheels, real skateboards, etc) and Japanese artist extraordinaire, Haroshi, to produce sculptures of a dog’s bust, fire hydrant, 1000% skateboard wheel & and a fully functioning electric guitar OUT OF OLD SKATEBOARD DECKS! I don’t know if you can wrap your brain around that because I almost couldn’t fathom it myself, AND I SAW THE EXHIBIT IN PERSON! I really wish I caught the ollie contest over the fire hydrant, but being able to appreciate the works first hand was really amazing. Thanks again to Keith, Sweets, Naotake, Scott, Anne and the entire HUF + LA fam for a great event. To commemorate the event, HUF and DLX has put together a collection of shoes, tees and gear – as you shall see here:
HUF Hufnagel Pro Model in concrete grey perf suede/suede upper. The outsole is a clear cupsole with the interlocking wood pattern HUF “H”s underneath. The interlocking wood pattern HUF “H” is also repeated – printed on the insole. There a drawing of the fire hydrant embroidered on the heel, and a HUF x HAROSHI tag on the tongue. I really like the Hufnagel Pro Model shoe. Its super comfortable and all the kids that I know that have skated them have really liked the shoe as a skate shoe.

Lebron 9 “cool grey” is a great colorway. You almost cannot mess up with a “cool grey” colorway – unless you are wearing all grey clothes because then you just end up looking like a statue….not a good look. But yeah, Lebron 9 still has so much energy around it because of the strong QS releases. This has been a blueprint on how to launch a new, non-retro silhouette without over saturating it…yet. Haha. Nike hasn’t had the best track record in the “keeping colorways to a minimum” department. Lebron also hasn’t had the best track record in the “holding his team down in the 4th quarter” department either, though. JUST SAYIN! This is coming from a Lebron supporter since his entrance to the league… NIKE BASKETBALL – KOBE VII:
The non-Supreme Kobe VIIs don’t come with the extra ankle support insoles. I think people got confused that all the new VIIs would be like the Supremes, but the GR VIIs will be as pictured with no extras. This black/white colorway is fresh to death, though! THANK YOU BASED GOD FOR ABANDONING THE SCALES ON ZE UPPER! No thank you to David Stern for blocking that CP3 trade to the Lakers, and no thank you to the Lakers for trading away Lamar. Sensational! NIKE AF1 “YEAR OF THE DRAGON” SUPREME QUICKSTRIKE – SATURDAY (1/14) RELEASE:
Everyone that put AF1s to the left the last year(s) or so are the same people that stopped wearing their New Eras, but these are all the same people who are coming back around to…you guessed it: AF1s and New Era fitteds. Classics are such because of their staying power and timeless style. AF1s are classics. I mean, just listen to the anthem “Classic” produced by DJ Premier. It says it all. Anyway, this “Year of the Dragon” Supreme QS AF1 is certified dope. You cannot get any cleaner than an all black upper with all white outsole. I could straight up live in this shoe. The dragon graphic on the tongue is the only color pop (other than the insole, which is obviously not visible when wearing). Even if you’re not born under the Dragon sign, which I am not either, this is a great AF1. I feel like this is one of those that flies under the radar and then everyone wants it a couple of months later when I’m laughingly wearing mine on the daily. Boo. Ya. REEBOK PUMP FURY “OG”:
Not only is this is OG Pump Fury colorway! HOORAY! But Reebok has numbered each shoe out of a 2012 run, which yes, is a lot of pairs, BUT to number each one is special. The Pump Fury is one of those shoes that is such a unique silhouette that you can’t help but remember the first time you saw it or which one of your friends used to rock ‘em. Love ‘em or hate ‘em – they definitely stay in your memory banks. We have a limited amount of pairs in the shop right now. I already know Tassho from Flip the Bird is all over this one (he being one of the homies that I distinctly remember rocking Pump Furys back in the day). CONVERSE FIRST STRING – JP JOHNNY HI:
Converse First String with yet another solid take on a classic silhouette. This time the Jack Purcell Johnny Hi gets a black denim upper treatment. What a difference it makes when there are premium materials and a well thought through design. I appreciate good attention to detail, and I think the likes of: Converse First String and Vans Vault do an outstanding job in creating shoes that substantially standout as top tier product. NIKE SB – JANUARY ’12 ARRIVALS:
For skating, the suede is going to win out all the time, but the leather Janoski joints are nothing to sneeze at style-wise.
SB Bruin in the Diamond/Tiffany colorway is a smart move to instantly energize this silhouette, which is a good, retro tennis style, but not the most checked for model out of the entire SB product range.
This entire 2011 year of SB Dunks has been the best overall in a while. Dunks feel like they are on the upswing again like they never left…
I really like the P.Rod V, and I like the P.Rod V Mid even more. I just think they need to offer round, hiking type laces as the second option and its a certified wrap!

When the first GR colorways of the Lebron 9 dropped, it was more of a consensus “meh” than “wowsers” from most customers and Lebron sneakerheads, but then came the Canons…man, if we only had like 36 more pairs of those to sell…if only…and now, this Saturday (12/17) we will have the “China” quickstrike colorway dropping, and in my opinion, this colorway hits EVEN HARDER than the Canons! The blue on this shoe isn’t an ordinary blue, which makes it stand out even more (a la the Kobe V “Miles Davis” joints from a year and a half ago in terms of memorable blue colorways). NIKE RUNNING: TAILWIND (VINTAGE) QUICKSTRIKE – SATURDAY (12/17) RELEASE:
In the spirit of the Honolulu Marathon this past weekend, Nike has produced a super limited edition Tailwind, which coincidentally was originally launched at the 1978 Honolulu Marathon with the first use of Nike air bag technology. KICKS/HI is the only account in the entire North America to carry this shoe! As always, Nike always nails the vintage detailing on these running retros. Man, after picking up like 6 colorways of the Kobe V, something about the Kobe VI turnt me off and I didn’t buy any of them, and then this Kobe VII Supreme arrived, and I think me and Kobe sneakers are back in a good place. This supreme package includes the shoe upper with two sets of insoles that have built-in socks. They slide in and out of the upper easily. The velcro ankle strap is for added support when actually playing ball – as none of the Kobe models up to this date offered any kind of ankle support. The second insole/sock is the low top version. If you’re not following how this works: the upper is without a tongue, and the insole with connected sock IS the tongue as well. Its a very well conceived product, and a great colorway – especially for Lakers fans. NIKE SB – DECEMBER ’11 ARRIVALS:

Of all the designs we have done over the past 10 years, this is one of most meaningful ones that we have had the honor of running: KICKS/HI Fall 2011 – ‘Love & Aloha’ Sig Zane for KICKS/HI. Uncle Sig blessed us with his signature hand style for this graphic. This is also the first double name t-shirt we have ever done together. “Internationally renowned, José Parlá is widely known for his distinctive abstract process that blends calligraphy, collage, textures, and color to create paintings dealing with themes such as psycho-geography, urbanization, wall decay, names, personal diaries, current events, and political divisions. His paintings are symbols that depict the memory of a place, an observation, the mood of an experience, or a shared story of passing through cities around the world. Using the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe as the canvas, Parlá’s painting “Ephemeral Pitches, and Notes, Rhythm and Phonetics” graces the shoe’s upper. Using an extremely high-tech laser printing technique, Parlá’s work is immaculate and vivid with a carefully color-matched representation of the original piece in natural tones of tan, yellow and grey. Additionally, subtly placed in the shoe’s interior, Parlá’s signature can be found on the shoe’s footbed as well as a repeat calligraphy pattern along the shoe’s lining. The shoe’s outsole also receives a unique painted treatment, giving nod to the artist at work in his studio. Jose Parla is one of my favorite contemporary artists so this shoe has definitely been on my watchlist since I saw a sample earlier this year. Its one of those shoes that will look just as dope worn out as it does all crisp and new. I especially like the off-white, canvas heel strip with Parla’s distinct handstyle tag. The beauty is in the details. Not only is this a really sick looking shoe, but it is also for a GREAT cause. A cure for AIDS is still as relevant today as the first AIDS crisis arose in the ’80s.
