041411: CONVERSE FIRST STRING SATURDAY (4/16) RELEASES & NEW ARRIVALS…
|x| What’s good, fam! In what has been like a 2-3 year window, Converse has become one of the top selling and most coveted brands at KICKS/HI. A big part of that re-introduction has been due to the proper tiering of their sub-lines: John Varvatos for Converse, Jack Purcell, and First String (specifically catering to premium boutique/retail). Corporate talk is a funny thing because if you go to enough meetings with corporate salespeople or “suits” then you will find that they use a lot of the same catchphrases. One of the more popular ones in regards to shoes is “energy”, and in this case, “energy” actually is the proper description of the Converse line. Its, as some might say, “comin’ in hot!”. Never overstated from their general releases throughout the most premium of collaborations. Everything fits within their character and aesthetic. I know this sounds like a huge Converse commercial, but as you’ve been seeing in these newsletters over the last year and a half, and as you’ll see with the First String releases in this newsletter-I’m only pointing out the obvious. Real recognize real.

Ladies, brand new Missoni for Converse First String – featuring two different color stripe patterns on the inside/outside of the upper with a black and white stripe pattern on the spine upper and tongue. All white midsole with the classic black and white rubber heel tab. This is a beautiful shoe. Please note that the first Missoni offering we had sold out in less than 2 days. TAKA HAYASHI for VANS VAULT – SK8 HI LX (NOMAD):
I wasn’t feeling the first TH SK8-HI because the colorway seemed too muted, but this one with the cream white & brown juxtaposition is really fresh. The silhouette itself feels like a viking army had a baby with APC.

I really like: 1) tonal eyelets (check), 2) tonal laces (check), 3) brown leather accents (check). These Chukkas are instant classics. That brown leather heel accent always takes it to the next level for me. Good stuff.

“Vans unveils a new set of sneakers produced alongside OTW crew members The Blackouts, otherwise known as (the brothers) Ako and Atiba Jefferson. Together they deconstructed the Larkin by removing all padding to refine the silhouette, applied premium black materials to upgrade the uppers, and added their logo to the soles to complete their signature shoe. NIKE SB APRIL ’11 – DUNK LOW:
This shoe feels like a Supa tribute, or its arrival signifies the Knicks making the playoffs this year…who knows. Either way, I do like that SB has gone back to making solid colorways on their Dunks. It has helped balance out the more wild out quickstrike releases.

I was never much of a Pump Fury fan…until this colorway. The the grey, blue, pink colorway with the speckled midsole works well, and the Sherpa type patterned lining works SUPER well.

10 Deep gave the Night Sky silhouette a true hiking treatment. This is a good look with some raw denim or military green/camo pants.
