081111: BLAKE GRIFFIN HYPERDUNK 2011 QUICKSTRIKE, NIKE SB JANOSKI VELCRO QS & NEW CONVERSE ARRIVALS…
|x| What’s good, fam! We have seen a lot of great shoes this summer. What are some of your favorites? I personally have been feeling pretty much all the Converse First String releases (especially the latest Hideout Chucks & those Straight Shooters), the Vans Vault “Aloha Pack”, Italian Camo Kobe VI, SB Koston One, and pretty much all Visvim, everything. Good news is that the homies at Saint Alfred have restored their Visvim account like they never left. So from Spring ’12 on, they will be one of the few retailers worldwide to stock their amazing footwear, clothing & accessories. And when I say “few”, I mean “less than 10 accounts”….its something ridiculously limited like that. If we couldn’t stock the brand, then I’m glad its still in the family. Please believe!
NIKE SB AUGUST QUICKSTRIKE – JANOSKI SE (VELCRO):

The Janoski is one of the most popular and highest volume selling shoes in the history of our carrying Nike SB. Even colorways that we thought were questionable (no plan B) have sold through quick. So how does one improve/build upon that kind of legacy? Good question, and SB’s answer to that was introducing the Janoski Mid this year. That shoe has done really well too. And then we receive this QS Janoski, which SB has replaced the laces and eyelets with 2 velcro straps. I know this shoe is going to probably sell out this weekend, but I personally feel like it reads a little too much like “my first shoe” than something I would buy, but hey, I’m growing my hair out and right now it looks like I have Kid’s high top fade from House Party, which wasn’t really cool back then when I had that in 7th grade and even more so not now…
Get your pair of this velcro Janoski at the shop. No phone orders on Nike SB products. Sorry.
NIKE BASKETBALL QUICKSTRIKE – HYPERDUNK 2011 “BLAKE GRIFFIN”:

Reigning NBA ROY and single handed interest in the dunk contest bringer, Blake Griffin, gets his own QS Hyperdunk 2011. Yes, its an electric orange upper. Hard to miss that one – even if you’re colorblind. I happen to really like this colorway a lot. The grey and black accents break up the orange well, and the crackled midsole provides a nice contrast.

I took this pic with the flash on to show the reflective aspect to the upper. Pretty cool.

The one thing about wearing this shoe is that when you show up to the courts with these on….man, you better be ready to ball because these are flashy. I tend to lay in the cut with some basic colorway Kobe’s to not draw too much attention to myself; therefore, when I start nailing jumpers then its a pleasant surprise for the team, and if I throw a bunch of passes away, my teammates already didn’t expect much out of me. Haha. The psychology of what shoes to wear to play ball in…

CONVERSE – AUGUST ARRIVALS:

The JP Johnny Mid got a full leather jacket treatment (ok, that was a bad play on ‘Full Metal Jacket’…”PYLE!!”), and even worse for me, this has nothing to do with the leather jacket shoes that Converse makes. Wamp and wamp. I am striking out all over the place. Good thing this is just a newsletter and not a date because I feel like I’d have to walk home mid-date and I’m the one that drove. Aaaaanyway, Johnny Mid. Very dope in all leather upper with leather laces. In this instance of leather pon leather pon leather, I could’ve went for round hiking or thinner, waxed laces to give a contrast, but the current option works. Don’t get me wrong.

The 2011 Chuck Taylor duck boot & a maroon version of the AS Premium “American Flag” chucks are now in the building as well.

I can’t imagine anyone purchasing these to actually be worn in the context of a traditional duck boot (i.e. on a fishing boat), but Converse did well to keep within the design language of a duck boot with the upper, ridged midsole and even mesh eyelets resembling that of a duck boot. The beauty of Converse and specifically Chuck Taylors is that there is so much history behind this particular shoe that even when new takes on it come out there is a level of trust built into the name that it won’t be wack. Not that Converse should go out of its way to bastardize the Chuck Taylor, but even when customers saw the first duck boot chuck last fall, all it took was the simple explanation “Its still Chucks” for them to reply, “Oh dope,” and think nothing of it.

The black leather colorway of this Premium CT sold out in no time, and for some reason it feels like maroon/cardinal is coming back into play as a major color for Fall. Or am I trippin’? Who knows these days…I do know that this shoe is DOPE. Best features are: 1) the American flag pattern on the inside and tongue lining & 2) the little embossed one star on the heel upper. That star detail is such a simple, understated touch that speaks volumes to me.

RANDOM TOP 5 // THURS. 08/11:
1. speaking of ‘Full Metal Jacket’, you do realize that Pyle was played by ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent” star Vincent D’Onofrio?
2. D’Onofrio was also the farmer that gets possessed by the alien bug in ‘Men in Black’. Bugged out.
3. Whistle “Just Buggin’ (Nothing Serious)”
4. WATCH THE THRONE (as one of my friends put it “this is going to be just as closely scrutinized as the Miami Heat roster”)
